Horizon Audiobook Player

An entry point to worlds built with words

The horizon is the space where the sky meets the earth. It is an imaginary boundary beyond which new adventures await. For me, audiobooks are a way to reach that horizon—to leave behind the worries of everyday life and drift along with the story like a boat on the water. To go beyond the horizon, where we become part of the story ourselves.

Why was Horizon created?

Audiobooks have been my passion for as long as I can remember. From my childhood, when our parents recorded fairy tales for us on a tape recorder, through the “guerrilla” days of amateur community recordings, all the way to the present. Today, while books are more accessible than ever, a new challenge has emerged: How to keep an extensive library organized and always within reach?

My search through the depths of the internet led me to the AudioBookShelf (ABS) project. It is a brilliant system that fulfilled everything I wished for—and more. However, I eventually hit a “stumbling block”:

  • The official iOS app has been my biggest pain point. By trying to mirror every single feature of the web version, it has become overly complex, clunky, and slow.
  • I looked for alternatives, but I found surprisingly few dedicated clients for such a great project.

My journey: Similar, yet different

I decided to take matters into my own hands and do it my way. Horizon Audiobook Player isn’t just another app—it is my answer to the frustrations of using the official client. My goal was to create something that focuses on the immersive experience of listening, rather than the complexity of settings.

Horizon is now ready to set sail. I would be delighted if you gave it a try and shared your feedback or reported any bugs you might encounter.
